How to Truly Love Yourself
· 1.) Know that loving yourself is not wrong.
Self-love is so important as it fosters our self-esteem and effects every area of our lives. It determines our income and what we put up with. I know that Christians can feel “wrong” at the thought of self-love as we are taught to be others-centered but the bible also says to love our neighbor as ourselves; so in order to effectively love our neighbor we must first love God and our self. It’s okay to love you.
· 2.) Embrace Your Strengths +Uniqueness
Create a list of things you like about yourself. You can start by getting a journal and begin to write down the things you love about yourself. Take some time to appreciate your personality, your strengths, characteristics, and traits. That will inevitably boost your confidence.
· 3.) Be proud of how far you’ve come.
We can be hard on ourselves. We can get so caught up on what we did wrong, what didn’t go right, and how far we’ve got to go but true living coming when we can appreciate our growth. You have to be proud of how far you’ve come. I know you’ve made mistakes and so have I but we have to be proud of the work we put into ourselves. We can acknowledge the past without becoming it. We can be grateful that although we are not where we want to be, we are thankful we are not where we used to be.
· 4.) Use Affirmations
Affirmations are so important and effective because it helps reshape our self-esteem to be more positive. Life can be difficult and we can often hear a lot of negativity that can shape how we feel about ourselves so affirmations help us to maintain a positive self-image and perspective in order to live a good life. Use affirmations that start with “I am” and then fill in the rest. Examples, “I am beautiful”, “I am powerful”, “I am great at what I do”. It may seem cheesy at first, but they work (:
5.) Create Great Self-Care Habits
Your self-care matters. Create self-care habits because how you care for yourself can impact your confidence. Take some time to identify self-care habits that you can do to keep yourself feeling good as self-care helps us with our work-life-balance. Here are some ideas: journaling, exercising, getting a pedicure or manicure, going for a walk, taking a bubble bath, or going to the beach.
